Long Diagonal Partials and Totality 2 - 2017 Total Solar Eclipse

This image is a combination of images shot with two separate cameras. The first camera (Nikon D810 with a solar filter) shot the sequence of the partial eclipse phases. The second camera (Nikon D800 and no solar filter) shot a bracketed exposure sequence of the Sun's corona during totality (see: Visual Coronal 1). The images were then stacked and arranged to produce the final composition.

The Moon appears darker than the sky because of the huge contrast between the Moon's disk and the very bright inner corona adjacent to the Moon. I've tried to preserve this visual impression in this image. A custom Curves layer was used to approximated the color to the dark blue sky during totality.

This image is available as a Custom Print.
