Eclipse sky

From: Andi Poole andipoole@andipoole.freeserve.co.uk To: Multiple recipients of list eclipse@hydra.carleton.ca Subject: Venus etc Date: Tuesday, February 23, 1999 9:41 PM

I attach a screen shot from Skyglobe, showing the positions of stars and planets from Paris at 11:42 on August 11 1999. This may be a little after the eclipse, and Paris is slightly south of Centre, but (for those who ARE interested) is should give a rough idea of what can be seen and where. Andi

PS On the camp site front, we have sent a booking form to a site at Verdun, France - bang on centre, and a swimming pool for the kids.

for those who don't know it yet: here are a few sources that show the sky at totality on august 11. The first two are from Fred Espenak (NASA GSFC), the 3rd one is from Worachate Boonplod, Thai astronomy student.

Andi Nice sky view. Thanks. I use Starry Skies which I like very much and reviewed for the National Science Teachers Association. Far better than Scientific astronomer which I reviewed for appeared in Sky & Telescope in their February issue.

I tried to attach is a graphic file snapshot I produced with Starry Skies as I simulated t he February eclipse of 1998 from the Caribbean. You can see the planets, stars and more. It did not go through this listeserve. If you want a copy of the image to view send me an email , and I will send it.

If someone can give me some coordinates- (I am looking for Lake Balaton, Hungary), I'll produce one for the August eclipse and post it. I guess there probably will not be much of a difference of the sky view from different parts of the path in terms of celestial view.

I will be posting accounts by people of the next august eclipse on my website. Currently I have some posting from 1998 and will post the ones I got from

1991.

If you have some accounts for 1998, send them to me for 1998 consideration. pass them on for consideration. Also think about contributing to my project for 1999 eclipse.

I am not looking for a lot of writing. I am looking for communication with one or more of 8 intelligence modes (poetry, drawings, analogies, cartoons, metaphors, jingles, rhymes, little songs and more). More information and insrucitons at my website, pictures, accounts and much more. If you have questions let me know
