Are there weather prospects listed anywhere for the Black Sea for the August 11 TSE? Philip Harrington's "Eclipse!" lists weather prospects for Romania and Turkey, but I wonder how to interpolate these prospects for the sea in between. Thank you, Cathy Conwill

You should definetlely get hold of a copy of NASA Reference Publication 1398 -- "Total Solar Eclipse of 1999 August 11" by Fred Espenak and Jay Anderson. The second author is a meteorologist who specializes in meteorology and climatology and their effects on upcoming eclipses. The hard-copy publication is available from the NASA Center for AeroSpace Information, 800 Elkridge Landing Road, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090-2934, (301) 621-0390. It is also available on the World Wide Web at http://umbra.nascom.nasa.gov/eclipse/990811/rp.html -- joe rao

Fred Espenak's NASA Publication 1398 suggests that the probablity of seeing the sun at about 60%. Of course those on board ship, such as the Marco Polo will have the advantage of satellite weather imaging and mobility to move where the liklihood of clears skies is greater.
