Europe trip

My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Europe for the Aug 11, 1999 TSE. Neither one of us has ever seen a total eclipse before, so we're both looking forward to our first eclipse experience. We would like to explore on our own, rather than join a tour group. We want to view the eclipse from a site with reasonably good chances for clear skies, but it is also important to us to be in a fun part of Europe, since it's my boyfriends first trip. We're leaning towards viewing the eclipse in Germany, but don't know exactly where to go. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Debra Xanthos
