General: Between Eclipse lines?

To: [email protected] From: Stefan Guavas Subject: [SE] Question

Hello, I have a little question about the 1999 solar eclipse: Do I really have to stay between the two lines that you find on every eclips-chart to see the eclips totaly? Thanks, Stefan

Yes, the two lines mark the dark part of the shadow of the moon. If you are even a kilometer off to the side, you will probably not see the corona. I can note, though, that it is not necessary to be right at the center of the path; 2/3 of the way to the side still gives you most of the duration of totality. Jay Pasachoff
